Brighton Film Studios expands with brand new creative art department
Screen and Film School Brighton’s flagship filmmaking facility recently benefited from an 8,000 sq. ft expansion housing a dedicated art department and Hair and Make-up studio.
The newest addition to Brighton Film Studios’ industry-standard facilities boasts seven new teaching spaces, offering an increased range of creative collaborative opportunities whilst catering for students on Screen and Film School’s newest course offerings:
BA (Hons) Production Design for Screen & Film
BA (Hons) Hair and Make-up for Screen & Film
The new industry standard facility, which is the result of a near £1 million investment, includes dedicated creative resources for students who could progress into professional roles such as Hair and make-up artist, Production Designer, Art Director and special FX technician for music videos, feature films, TV, corporate advertising, fashion and the creative arts.
This investment also mirrors continued growth within the wider UK film and TV industry itself, which continues to display healthy levels of large scale investment.
The new facilities at Brighton Film Studios include:
- Hair and Make-up studio
- Production Design studio and workshop
- Creative technical space for students
- Design HUB with specialist software
- CAD Studio
- Photographic stage for test shoots
Opening at the start of September 2022, this brand-new studio development heralds an exciting new chapter in Screen and Film School Brighton’s continued growth, providing students with increased access to industry-standard kit and more opportunities for creative collaboration – a core theme across all HE courses.
For students and professionals alike, a clear understanding of one’s role within their filmmaking department and knowing how to work within a wider filmmaking crew is crucial to success in the industry.
To support this, our new industry standard creative arts facility will provide students with an even deeper understanding of the collaborative relationships between filmmaking departments and will prepare them to be ‘set ready’ for life as professional freelancers within their chosen specialist fields.
College Principal, Itziar Leighton, had this to say about the new facility:
“We are truly proud to be able to offer our students, an outstanding new facility which has been designed by top industry experts to meet the needs of the film, TV and media industry.
Our two new degree courses are delivered in these outstanding spaces, providing a bespoke and creative environment in which students can develop their skills and expertise.
We have worked hard to ensure that our students have the space, light, tools and resources to be their very best, and to achieve their ambitions and goals. This new facility, in addition to our existing film studios, creates a film lot for the city of Brighton, which after all was once so instrumental in early stages of filmmaking.”
Screen and Film School Brighton is incredibly excited to see how our new courses and creative arts facilities affect the outcomes of our students’ films, and we look forward to the many creative collaborations to come.
