The future of film and digital media: MetFilm School merges with Screen and Film School and launches MetStudios

24 September, 2024

We’re pleased to share several exciting new updates after MetFilm School joined the BIMM Group earlier this year.

Firstly, we’re thrilled to announce that MetFilm School is expanding and joining forces with Screen and Film School. Both institutions will now operate under the MetFilm School brand, sharing our experience and expertise to become an even stronger force in film education.

As part of this new chapter for MetFilm School, BIMM University will replace the University of West London as the awarding body for many of our undergraduate and postgraduate degrees, starting in September 2025.

What does the merger mean for students?

For current students of MetFilm School and Screen and Film School, there will be no immediate changes. From 2025, students will benefit from an expanded MetFilm School community, with access to campuses in London, Berlin, Birmingham, Brighton, Leeds, and Manchester.

This broader network will provide enhanced opportunities for collaboration, networking and personal growth as a filmmaker. By combining the state-of-the-art facilities, expert lecturers and industry connections of both schools, we ensure that students are more prepared than ever before to enter the flourishing screen and film sector.

Some of the benefits of this merger will be available to all film students starting this academic year. MetFilm School have secured partnership status with the British Film Institute (BFI), and the advantages of this include onsite masterclasses, as well as access to the BFI Short Film Award Sponsorship and BFI Network Mentoring Scheme.

Introducing MetStudios

Another exciting development for BIMM University is the launch of MetStudios, a brand-new specialist school for games, animation and visual effects (VFX).

We’re committed to bridging the skills gap in the creative arts, and right now there’s a growing global demand for digital media practitioners. MetStudios is set to offer cutting-edge training that combines the technical and creative aspects of digital media, equipping students with the knowledge and expertise they need to excel in growth industries that are expanding their use of these new technologies.

Campuses are already up and running in Brighton and Berlin, with plans to expand to Bristol, Leeds, London, and Manchester in 2025.

Dara Kilkenny, Pro Vice-Chancellor of Screen and Film at BIMM University, commented:

“By combining our strengths, the two schools will create a unique offer, giving all students access to state-of-the-art film studios, industry-standard kit, top lecturers, and important industry connections. By bringing together each school’s rich history, resources and significant achievements, we are positioning MetFilm School as the market leader in film and screen education across Europe, and the UK.”

Jonny Persey, Director of MetFilm School, echoed Dara’s sentiments:

“Our new home within the BIMM group, and the merger with Screen and Film School has brought together two storied institutions under one banner, creating a learning environment that celebrates the very best of our shared histories. The launch of MetStudios is a bold step forward into creative technology, where the opportunities for our students and graduates are many.”
